Fresh off his Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ke Huy Quan has expressed a desire to tackle darker characters, revealing his ambition to play a “bad guy” on screen. Citing iconic examples like a Bond villain and Hugh Grant’s recent performance in Heretic, Quan shared his eagerness to break out of his comfort zone.

“I would love to play a bad guy. Like a Bond villain. Or the kind of thing Hugh Grant does in Heretic,” said Quan. “I want to go out of my comfort zone and just play this diabolical, really bad guy. That would be a lot of fun.”

Having spent years choreographing stunts and fights for action-packed films like X-Men (2000) and The One (2001), Quan emphasised his desire to showcase his versatility as an actor. “I don’t want to be perceived as an action star. I hope I’m perceived as an actor who does action well,” he explained. “The best part about being an actor is you get to play a variety of different characters. I loved playing [Loki’s] Ouroboros because he’s so different from [EEAAO’s] Waymond, and Waymond is so different from [Love Hurts’] Marvin Gable.

Quan’s career resurgence has been nothing short of extraordinary. After winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2023, becoming the first Vietnam-born actor to achieve the honour and only the second performer of Asian descent to win in that category, Quan signed on to lead Love Hurts. The action-comedy, produced by Universal Pictures and 87North, is slated for a global theatrical release on February 7, 2025, just ahead of Valentine’s Day.

The actor has also been cast in Lionsgate’s action thriller Fairytale in New York, directed by Jalmari Helander, further showcasing his commitment to diversifying his filmography.

Ke Huy Quan’s journey to Hollywood stardom began in his youth, with iconic roles in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and The Goonies (1985). However, facing limited opportunities for Asian actors, he left acting for years before making a triumphant return in Finding ‘Ohana (2021) and the critically acclaimed Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022).

As BTS’ Kim Seokjin celebrates the end of his military conscription, fans are finally getting what they’ve been eagerly waiting for. Yesterday, the teaser of Jin’s OST for the highly anticipated tvN drama When The Stars Gossip dropped. This marks the second time Jin has contributed his voice to a drama OST, following his stunning performance of Yours for Jirisan. When The Stars Gossip, written by Seo Sook-hyang and directed by Park Shin-woo, stars Lee Min-ho as Gong Ryong and Gong Hyo-jin as Eve Kim, alongside Han Ji-eun, Oh Jung-se, and Kim Joo-hun. The series tells the captivating story of a space tourist and an astronaut who cross paths on a space station.

The teaser, released by 1theK, a South Korean web series and YouTube channel known for its K-pop music videos and other content, has rapidly captivated fans worldwide. The video showcases stunning scenes from the drama, beautifully complemented by Jin’s tender, emotive voice.

Many viewers have already shared their excitement after watching the teaser. “OMG OMG OMG HIS VOCALS, I’M SOBBING MY HEART OUT,” one fan exclaimed. Keke Palmer and SZA’s comedy “One of Them Days” trailed the Disney animated film by a slim margin.

More than the king of lions, Mufasa: The Lion King also managed to pull out a last-minute win at the box office over the 4-day Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

While early estimates saw competitor One of Them Days winning the long weekend, Mufasa upset expectations by adding $3.8 million on the Monday holiday, ending with an estimated $15.5 million domestic gross over the period.

The live-action, Barry Jenkins-directed film had the benefit of a built-in audience of families and Disney devotees of all ages who still have fond memories of the 1994 animated hit The Lion King, which featured voices including Whoopi Goldberg, Matthew Broderick, and the late James Earl Jones, as well as 2009’s remake directed by Jon Favreau and featuring the voices of Beyoncé, Donald Glover, and Seth Rogen.

Mufasa, a prequel about the title character’s origin, was projected to have raised its global box office total to $588 million. The new production, featuring the voices of Keith David, Thandiwe Newton, Mads Mikkelsen, and Anika Noni Rose, is in its fifth weekend.

Meanwhile, the Keke Palmer- and SZA-led comedy One of Them Days was estimated to have taken in a total of $14.23 million in the same four days, its debut weekend.

Bringing up the rear in the top 5 was Moana 2, a November release that also comes from a legacy property at the House of Mouse. The movie, which stars the voices of Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, added $8.1 million to its total gross. In all, the flick has pocketed a cool $444.8 million globally.

Sean Baker’s screwball comedy will face other multiple nominees like ‘The Brutalist,’ ‘A Real Pain’ and ‘A Complete Unknown.’

Sean Baker’s Anora leads the 2025 Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards nominations with five nods, including for best picture, best screenplay and best director, it was announced Monday.

Baker’s screwball comedy about a young sex worker’s romantic entanglement with the son of a Russian oligarch also earned a best female actor nod for Mikey Madison and a best supporting male actor nomination for Yuri Borisov.

Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist earned nominations for best picture, best screenplay and best male actor for Adrien Brody. Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain will compete in the best picture, best screenplay and supporting male actor category with Kieran Culkin.

And director James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic, received nominations for best male actor for Timothée Chalamet, best supporting male actor with Edward Norton and best supporting female actor with Monica Barbaro.

The Substance, from director Coralie Fargeat, earned a best female actor nomination for Demi Moore and a best supporting female actor nod for Margaret Qualley.

The winners of the 25th VFCC awards will be announced on Feb. 19 in Vancouver. A full list of nominations follows:
